Welcome to The Dream Project’s new blog! We will do our best
to keep this site updated and help you to get to know our children and staff a
little better.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with The Dream Project
(or Projecto Sohno as it’s known in Mozambique, a Portuguese speaking country),
I’ll do my best to give you some background.
We have a Center in Pemba, Mozambique, which is called
Projecto Sonho. Projecto Sonho is trying to be a light to our community. We
help around 15 children by paying for their schooling and educational needs. We
work with five families in our community offering things like food assistance
or helping them purchase materials to make items for sale. Widows head four of
the families that we help. The other family is lead by two brothers that are
about 18 and 20, for many years they took care of their dying mother, who
passed away about 2 years ago.
Mozambique had a civil war that lasted about 20 years and
while it came to an end in the early 1990’s, that in combination with the AIDS
epidemic has made a lasting effect. It’s almost as if there is a generation
missing, grandparents are raising children and many widows are left without any
training to fend for themselves.
In addition to reaching out into our community, we also house
12 boys in Projecto Sonho. This part of our ministry is called Our Father’s
House (I’m not sure what that is in Portuguese). The 12 boys who live with us
are all either orphaned or are considered vulnerable.

If you are not a sponsor but are interested in becoming one,
please send me a message as well =)
We have a few different types of Sponsorship.
Child sponsorship starts at $40 per month. Most children
have more than one sponsor; we determine the number of sponsors based on what
it cost Projecto Sonho to support each child for a month. For example a child
that lives in our house costs generally cost more than a child who lives with
their family. With Child Sponsorship, we ask that you write your child a few
times a year and send them pictures of you and your family (the kids LOVE
getting pictures!). Letters and pictures can either be mailed to our office or
emailed.
Staff Sponsorship can be for any amount. You can sponsor a
specific person or a department. Such as Administration, Live-in Staff, Music,
Art, Cook, or Night Guard; or one of our 4 Mozambican staff who are trying to
raise support. (For those of you who do everything online, these 4 guys have
Facebook and so it’s a good opportunity to make a “friend” on the other side of
the world!)

| Zito is a local artist. He teaches the children how to make cards, necklaces and other items that are commonly sold in Moz. |
If you have any question please ask. If you have any message
for the children or staff, please comment and I will do my best to pass your
message along.
